What is a Central System?

Central air conditioners circulate cool air through a system of supply and return ducts. Supply ducts and registers (i.e., openings in the walls, floors, or ceilings covered by grills) carry cooled air from the air conditioner to the home. This cooled air becomes warmer as it circulates through the home; then it flows back to the central air conditioner through return ducts and registers.

Central HVAC System Overview

Essentially, a central heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system regulates your indoor climate by circulating heated or cooled air through ductwork. Despite its apparent simplicity, achieving the ideal temperature in your home involves numerous interconnected components.

Familiarizing yourself with the central heating and cooling mechanisms can aid in maintaining your HVAC system effectively. Once you grasp the fundamentals, you’ll have a better understanding of your home’s climate control every time your HVAC unit activates. Explore various HVAC system options and delve into the heating and cooling processes outlined below, complemented by an informative video elucidating HVAC functionality and operation.

How does central cooling function?

The cooling process of an air conditioner entails extracting heat and moisture from your indoor space and expelling it outdoors, consequently lowering your home’s temperature. This intricate operation requires seamless coordination among all elements of the central cooling system.

Direct Air Central Air Conditioners

Side discharge air conditioners have a compact design which allows installation on the ground near walls, on roofs or on balconies. Ultra quiet, you and your neighbours will appreciate all of its pleasures.

Direct Air Side Discharge series of air conditioning units offer quality and value you can count on for many years to come. Each model comes with the same standard features without any compromises so you and your family can experience Comfort At Its Best with Direct Air air conditioners.

How does central heating function?

Central heating systems operate similarly to central cooling systems, as they circulate air to adjust the indoor temperature. Unlike cooling systems that expel hot air, central heating systems draw in hot air to achieve the desired temperature in your home. However, it’s important to note that this isn’t universally applicable. Depending on your specific central heating system, your HVAC unit might generate heat internally instead.

Direct Air Central Heat Pumps

Direct Air mini-split heat pumps not only bring comfort to your home but also energy savings that can exceed 40% compared to traditional mini-split systems by using the latest compressor technology called “Inverter”.

When you need to cool more than one room, you don’t have to install a separate system.  You can choose our multi-zone models which will heat or cool many rooms by matching up to 4 ventilation units to a single outdoor unit.

Direct Air Central Air Handler

An air handler plays a crucial role in your HVAC system, responsible for circulating conditioned air throughout your home. It houses components like the blower, filter, and evaporator coil, working together to ensure efficient heating, cooling, and ventilation. The blower pulls in air from your home, passes it through the filter to remove impurities, then sends it over the evaporator coil where it gets heated or cooled before being distributed back into your living spaces.

Our air handlers are equipped with high-performance components, including efficient blowers and advanced filtration systems, guaranteeing clean and comfortable indoor air quality. With Direct Air’s reliable and durable air handlers, you can enjoy consistent heating, cooling, and ventilation for years to come.

Before installation, what measures should homeowners undertake?

Step 1

Determine your heating and cooling needs

Do you live in a place where the temperature outside gets close to freezing? If yes, consider investing in a furnace to provide hot, dry heat quickly. Does the temperature where you live stay consistent and mild most of the year? If so, a heat pump could provide the heating and cooling you need all year long.

Assess your HVAC needs based on your geographic region, yearly temperature patterns, and home size to ensure you’re installing the right device.

Step 2

Make time for installation

Allocate a few hours to a day for the installation of your new HVAC system, ensuring you’re present for any queries from the technician. For installations like furnaces requiring gas sources, plan for potential multiple-day processes and coordinate with your technician accordingly.

Step 3

Hire a licensed HVAC professional

Entrust the installation of your system to a licensed HVAC professional, preferably with additional credentials such as NATE certification. Your certified technician will not only install your system but also provide ongoing support for maintenance and troubleshooting as needed.
